Backstory: Reno was born in the slums to a woman who was ... basically, a prostitute. He never knew who his father was, and neither did his mother. The woman's one good thing she did was actually having the baby, rather than getting an abortion. However, after he got to a certain age, she wanted nothing more to do with him and disappeared one day, leaving the kid on his own. A six year old Reno was left to fend for himself in the streets. Being small and fast, he managed to survive by stealing mostly food and sometimes a bit of money. Several gangs tried to recruit him, as he was good at what he did ... but he wasn't prone to trust people, so he stayed on his own.
Eventually, one gang decided they wanted the redhead so badly that they tried to force him to join. They knocked him out and gave him the tattoos on his cheeks to show that he belonged to them. But Reno had no intentions of staying. He pretended to work with them, until the first opportunity came to get away. He tipped off authorities to a job they were pulling and then waltzed out of the resulting trap, leaving his "friends" to fend for themselves.
By this point, he was nearly 15 and had discovered ... other ... ways to make money. After one chance encounter where he was paid to give up his virginity to an older man, he turned to this, as it made more money than just stealing alone. After that first time, he was, of course, hurt and ashamed ... but he soon came to accept what he did as necessary and so it soon ceased to bother him. It was just ... what he did. All during this time, he also gained a reputation for being an excellent street fighter. You had to be, to survive.
He figured out soon enough that, while he didn't want to be a follower in a gang, more money could be made in a group ... and he gathered a gang of his own. He never forced anyone to do anything they didn't want to, and remained apart from most of them. Along with sex, the gang also sold information and their services to ... retrieve things. He took on the most dangerous jobs himself, sometimes taking one or two of the older ones with him. It was during one of these jobs that he caught the attention of the Turks...
